Lost and Found

Lost and Found is overflowing!! Please check for lost items. Remember to mark your child's items with their name. This makes it much easier to return items, especially Spirit Gear.

Lunch Menu Changes

Salad Bar for Jr. High will be discontinued on a daily basis due to lack of participation. Salad Bar will be offered one week a month starting in February. Check the menu to find out which week it will be offered.

We Are Collecting...

St. Mark School will start collecting Campbells Soup labels. We will use the labels to get Mrs. Schafer new P.E. equipment. Tell your family and friends to collect for us, too. A volunteer will be needed to count and package labels once we receive them.

Scrip News

We have a new Scrip vendor-Two25 with $25 cards and 10% profit. Shell has increased our profit to 2.5%. Thanks to all Scrip customers, the teachers and staff were able to enjoy a Christmas bonus this year.

Thanks for your continued support!

Winter Weather Reminder

Just a reminder that during the winter, if the school is open, we will not dismiss early due to weather. However, if parents wish, they can pick up their children early. If you plan to pick your children up early, please call ahead so they can be ready when you arrive.

If there is a major emergency, and we do have to close, you will be notified via Alert Now. This alert will be sent to every contact number supplied to the office at the beginning of the year. It will appear as 411-000-0000 on your caller ID.

Free and Reduced Lunches

If your family is experiencing a loss of wages, please feel free to contact Mrs. Driscoll in the lunchroom about temporary free or reduced lunches. This will help your family and help the school obtain additional state money.

Before Care Reminder

Just a reminder that students dropped off before 7:30 AM are charged for Before Care. If you do not want to be charged, drop off between 7:30 AM and 7:45 AM. This will allow the students time to get to class before the 7:50 AM tardy bell.

NO PARKING!

Please do not park and leave your car on Underhill when dropping your child off. This area is for stop and drop only. If you need to walk your child into school, please park in the church lot.

This ensures that parents will not have to drop their child in the middle of the street because there is no room to pull over to the curb.

Box Tops

Help give St. Mark School a chance to win one million Box Tops. That's $100,000! Simply go to thebigclip.com and register for a chance to win.

Subway School Support Program

If you have a Subway gift card (hopefully purchased through the Scrip program) and use it to make a purchase, Subway will donate a percentage of your purchase to St. Mark. You will need to register your card at www.subwayrewards.com to participate.

Medications

If your child needs medications at school, please provide them in the original container with their name and dosage marked. We can only distribute medication (including cough drops and Tylenol) provided by the parents with a signed note.

Aluminum Can Recycling

Through the generosity of Behr Peoria, Inc. St. Mark School will have an aluminum can trailer parked behind the school until further notice. Please feel free to drop your aluminum cans in this trailer for recycling. Proceeds will go to the S.M.A.R.T. Kids program.

We Are Collecting...

Don't forget to save Box Tops for Education, Used Ink Cartridges, Tyson Food Project A+ Labels and aluminum cans. We are no longer collecting Nestle's PureLife Water Bottle Labels. They have discontinued the program.

Press Release:

CAMPAIGN FOR WALKABLE WEST BLUFF USING ART TO REVITALIZE MAIN STREET

With the help of students from St. Mark School, Whittier Primary School and Bradley University, the Campaign recently completed and hung another display on Main Street. The newest display at 711 W. Main Street promotes the Campaign itself, the need for volunteers and the goal of reviving Main Street. “If we revive it, they will come” is the primary message with colorful walking people hand-decorated by the students and hand prints of those wanting to help.

Dan Schmidt, the building co-owner along with his father Ed Schmidt, have said that “Anything we can do to help the West Bluff and make it safer to walk on Main Street is something we support”. They both believe that the return of on-street parking would encourage businesses to return to Main Street. The Campaign is advocating for similar changes on Main Street between University and North. The addition of on-street parking, additional marked crosswalks, pedestrian signage, as well as promotion of alternate routes to downtown are some of the specific goals of the CWWB.

Local businesses have donated their windows along the street to the “Main”-ly Art Window Display Project sponsored by the Campaign. This is the third project on display in the past year. The most recent addition on the Street was the Peoria Art Guild Fine Art Fair Community Mural hung in early September at 715 W. Main Street.

The display project is an effort to engage business owners and the community in the redevelopment of Main Street. Using art to combat the negative impact of vacant storefronts and encourage people to come to Main Street are both important components of the project. The displays are similar to adding a fresh coat of paint. These buildings that seem to have faded into the background, now pop with color and vibrancy. Greg Tomlins, Campaign volunteer, says that “The community and potential businesses need to “see” the possibilities along Main Street and we believe the display project can help us accomplish that.” Future plans for the project could include temporary exhibits in vacant storefronts, similar to the “pop-up” art galleries in larger cities and three dimensional window displays depicting the kinds of businesses that could help revive Main Street.

The Campaign is looking for local artists or students/art teachers interested in displaying work or creating original pieces for display in storefront windows. For more information about the “Main”-ly Art Window Display project, email info@walkablewestbluff.org.
