Devotions
St. Mark Catholic School believes strongly in the formation of the practice of regular prayer. The Catholic faith is blessed with a rich treasury of prayers and devotions. St. Mark believes in teaching and practicing these devotions in an age appropriate manner.
Morning Prayer
As the faith leader of the school community the principal leads the staff and student body in an assortment of prayers and reflections. Often times these prayers are tied to the present liturgical season. Morning prayer is followed by the Plege of Allegiance which is said daily by all students enrolled in St. Mark Catholic School.
Holy Rosary
On Fridays the student body participates in the recitation of the Holy Rosary. The Rosary is a Catholic devotion with origins in the 13th century with St. Dominic. The Rosary is prayed over a series of beeds while meditating upon the various Mysteries regarding the life of Christ and other historical events. This all school Rosary is conducted in a variety of ways ranging from all school recitation in the gymnasium or grotto to the pairing of prayer buddies between younger and older children. Parents are invited to attend the recitation of the Holy Rosary and to participate in this devotion with their children.
Chaplet of Divine Mercy
On Thursday mornings the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is rectied in individual classrooms. This short prayer takes the place of regular morning prayer. The Chaplet is prayed on traditional Rosary beeds and emphasized the mercy and love of Christ shown by Christ' passion and death. The chaplet has its origins in the life and visions of Sister Faustina. This popular Catholic devotion has been growing in popularity over the past decades.
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
The Holy Eucharist is the source and summit of our Catholic Faith. In this Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar we meet Jesus face to face. St. Mark School is committed to solid catechesis regarding the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist. On Thursday afternoons the students of St. Mark participate in Eucharistic Adoration. The students are split into two different groups (k-5 and 6-8). Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is lead by Fr. Antoine a priest from the Brothers of St. John. Parents are invited to attend weekly adoration.
Holy Mass
Celebration of Holy Mass takes place weekly and is the pinnacle of the Christian life. All School Masses take place on Fridays and on Holy Days of Obligation. In addition to weekly Mass class Masses are celebrated througout the year.
